Hi Gang,

I came from another fellowship. Being an alcoholic addict, this disease try's to kill me with whatever it can. After finally putting down drugs and alcohol, the main culprit is sugar.

Today going to an AA meeting i busted. Chocolate biscuits staring me down and before i knew it i had already swallowed two, then i couldn't stop moving onto frozen yogurt after the meeting and another full pack of biscuits. This disease convinced me that my food plan wasn't important anymore because i've been doing o.k. lately.

I'm realizing that i need to pray before each meeting not to bust on sweets. How ironic! Does anyone else find themselves in trouble when heading out to another fellowship?

I think the solution is prayer for this. Especially on my way to the meeting. I need to do it always!

Best Regards :)

I do not belong to another fellowship but what you shared I think applies to the way I ate before program, as well as when in relapse. I would take that first bite of anything, with sugar flour and wheat and then I would be off and running for any and everyhthing in sight. It was like turning on the switch. Now because of the food plan and staying away from the sugar, flour, and wheat I don't behave in the same way, and do not have the cravings. ;) I really like the portions of the 7th Step Prayer that mention the food. I do think that it is helpful to pray, take a water bottle, any kind of distraction, should be a help. There is a question and answer section near the back of the Food Addicts Anonymous green book. It has some helpful information to read pertaining to when you are out, and what to do. I know there is a section of frequently asked questions on the website also, I don't know if that is the same. Also ask others what they do, and how they handle situations. It is so much about food now days, celebrations, get togethers, holidays, everything seems to be centered around the food. If we do anything it seems that food is involved. Take it one moment at a time, and also getting a sponsor would probably help, but keep connecting with others. Please don't put yourself down or be to hard on yourself, many of us have been there, done that and yet just for today, the words of wisdom are TRY, TRY, TRY AGAIN!

Thanks for your words. We are the same here42da. Ones too many and 100's not enough. That's for sure. Same disease, same reaction. I believe we must fail many times before we get it right. It's human nature. I should start praying for wisdom, because it seems i always have to suffer immensely from a behaviour before i will actually make the change. I remember i used to use an elastic around my wrist that i would always snap when i was getting a craving or thinking about busting. It take's the energy away from the mind quickly. Im going to put another one on right now  :!:
