View Full Version : Your "higher power" can be the group, the fellowship of faa

Some people may shy away from 12 step groups bec they think it's all about religion or God or spiritual...etc. Well, if you have an HP, as I do, that's great but if you don't believe that way, your higher power can be the group, belief that this group of people and their support can help you out of this mess.....and help you get the poisons out of your body so you don't have those miserable cravings that drive you to the sugar aisles of the supermarket and the fast-food drive throughs. there are so many people in FAA who have years of experience with the food plan and can be very helpful and supportive....and the newcomers have great ideas of their own. the steps I believe can be worked with the group as the higher power, am I wrong?
learning to fix mistakes of the past, wherever possible and to forgive those who have hurt us, etc. are all things that will make our lives better in the long run. when we are no longer using sugar/flour to dull our senses and make us senseless, we will be facing many feelings for the first time and will need the group support.....united we stand...

FAA is a 12 step group and as you know from being in AA, this is a 3 part program that helps us to recover not only physically with the food plan, but also; mentally/emotionally and spiritually. The food plan helps our minds to clear and begins the process of emotional healing. Working the 12 steps helps up to finish healing mentally/emotionally and also begins to heal us spiritually - so I no longer need to feel all alone in a room crowded with people. This disease of food addiction separates me not only from my HP, but also; from all of you. Using the tools of the program helps me to break the isolation so I don't find myself all alone with this disease who still wants to tell me strange things that lead me to an early death. The most horrible part of this disease for me was that I was actually buying into all of those horrible things that the disease kept telling me, one little extra bite won't hurt, you can handle a little bit extra, you aren't like those other food addicts - you are unique and you need a unique way of working this program. Today I know in my heart that I'm a garden variety food addict and that what works for other food addicts will work for me also.

THAT'S A GREAT MESSAGE, JUSTFORTODAY. I keep forgetting about the mental, emotional, spiritual part....keep thinking once I get all this stuff out of my body everything will be hunky dory but of course, that's not true, bec the problems will still be there! Am getting familiar with all the tools of teh program....I understand about the lies our bodies tell us, one little bite won't matter, you're not really an addict....you are right, it's a 3-part program, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL....very important to remember and emphasize to us newbies....it's not just about the food...so right. thanks so much.
