Food for the Soul reading on Self-Love from p. 256 (Sept. 12th):
COMPASSION FOR MYSELF
I often binged on sugar, flour, and wheat to stuff my feelings and numb myself. I hated who I was and tried in vain to escape. I just couldn't stand being me anymore.
I know today that eating addictively is an act of self-abuse. As I remain abstinent, I turn self-abuse into self-nurturing. I have more compassion for myself. I love myself and trust my instincts. I let go of shame and fill myself with good thoughts and feelings. I embrace my struggles, knowing that they are getting me to a better place. I accept my needs and wants as genuine and important. I am not a nuisance -- I am a precious creation.
The key to nurturing me is to follow the FAA food plan. I avoid sugar, flour, and wheat in all their forms and weigh and measure my meals. Following this suggested food plan is not a punishment. It is an act of compassion toward myself.
For today, I choose to love, care for, and nurture myself.
