I'm curious about something. How is FAA different from any commercial food program?
I have been abstienent for a few days and almost had a slip today. I'm emailing, and doing phone meetings.
Where are the steps? How do I take them? Where is the information in this program to IMMEDIATLY begin learning how to connect with my HP?
I feel like this is a just another diet.:concern:

FAA attempts to not compare the FAA food plan with other plans of eating, since what works for one person might not work for the someone else since we all have unique body chemistries. This is not a shame-based organization. Everyone is allowed to share at our meetings and it's not based on days of abstinence. To be a member of this 12-step group, all you need to do is to have a desire to abstain from addictive foods. The FAA food plan is a suggested food plan and has worked for many,many people.
From personal experience I've been on high protein - low carb diets and they worked for a short time and there came a point in time where I could no longer continue with that kind of a diet plan. Felt like I had run into a brick wall with it. And I've counted calories and the same story - it worked for a bit and then got to that point where I went back to eating the same old way. And would eventually gain back the weight and then some.
The beginner's pkt has more info on food addiction and also has the FAA food plan and guidelines for abstinence and it's available in PDF format for immediate download for about half price and the hard copy is mailed.
Finding a Higher Power can be as easy as acknowledging the beauty of nature, a beautiful sunset or sunrise and many use the God of our understanding. Acknowledging that there is a power greater than myself is one the keys to working any 12 step program of recovery. I've always had a belief in God, but never dreamed that He/She could or would be interested in helping me with my problem of overeating and food addiction. It's a connection that strengthens and it really does help to abstain from the sugar, flour and wheat which seems to block this connection. Actually any addiction will block this connection, but it is beyond the scope of this 12 step group to discuss further.

Congratulations on your few days!!!
Reaching out via email & phone meetings really helps make a connection with other loving food addicts, As for your higher power that is something you will find with in yourself in your own heart & soul as your journey continues you may find a higher power in our literature or in the group or just by using good orderly direction. I suggest you read from our green book page 59-some thoughts on spirituality... give out your number and collect phone numbers @ the end og the meetings and make out reach calls one on one and get your self a sponsor this is a WE program!! Most of all do not quit no matter what!!
As for the steps we have a beautiful steps to recovery book that was so elegantly written by food addicts ...all of our literature has been written by food addicts for food addicts, below is a link to the FAA store stock up...most of our literature can be down loaded for 1/2 the price and no postage. Keep coming back and journey along with on the road to abstinent recovery one day @ a time!!
