I have reached every goal and dream I have ever reached for. I could die and say I have done everything I have ever wanted to do except for one thing. I wish soooooo much that I could stay OMB my abstinence for 90 days. I should strive for forever and eventually that is the goal but I have never ever made it past 37 days. I want to make it o 90 leading to forever. Is there anyone out there who could be by my side daily just for support and a check in. I really hope someone can help me reach this.....thanks, nikitsa.

Hi = I've found that the slogans of the program have really helpled me to stay focused on what's important. The one that comes to mind reading your post is "One Day at a Time". I know that setting goals is a great motivator. My goal has changed from wanting to be abstinent for X number of days to setting my goal to be abstinent for today. I do keep track in my journal of the number of days I've been abstinent, and I report it to my sponsor. I do this because it reminds me, every day, that my goal is to stay abstinent for that day. I have decided that I don't want failure to reach a goal to determine my actions regarding my food addiction. I'm a food addict. I have to take steps every day to stay out of the disease. Once I start thinking about the future I risk loosing my present.
Take it easy and keep coming back. You're worth it!! Linda B

NikitsaBut how do we deal with the baptisms and weddings and birthday nights .....I know we can concentrate and focus all we can but there are times when we will not have a choice....it freaks me out, when I tell the restaurant my concerns and then I find out that they did not mention that the chicken was marinating in beef broth....things like this....ahhhrrrr...any thoughts????

i deal with these situations by bringing my own food with me to all events. i have stayed abstinent during my own birthday and other family members, thanksgiving, christmas, easter, etc. i will be my sisters maid of honor for her wedding and i will bring my own food there and ask them to heat it up and plate it for me so that i can eat it while everyone else is eating their dinner. we are responsible for our own abstinence and have to take care of ourselves b/c no one else understands the importance of following the food plan to a T. i rarely eat at restaurants (have actually only did it once for my birthday since abstinence) because i just feel more comfortable preparing my own food. when i did i ordered fish and i was very specific about my order and questioned it multiple times during ordering and even when it arrived at the table. chicken is often marinated at restaurants, so fish and beef are usually safer bets that they have not been messed with or marinated, but it is still important to ask and question and tell them to not even add any spices or seasoning to it. hope this helps.
