I know that coconut milk is not abstinent but does anyone know if coconut water is abstinent? There are other foods that we can eat that are higher in natural sugar then coconut water and coconut water is very good for you? Does anyone know? Thanks for your help.

Hi Jaime,
I'm sorry you haven't heard from anyone about your question. Maybe you have found the answer elsewhere, but I'd like to try answering it now for anyone else who chooses to look at this thread.
Coconut water is not on the FAA food plan. If you haven't seen the food plan yet, you can get there by following this link:

I've never had coconut water, but I imagine it's sweet just like regular coconuts are. Probably most of us who come here have a real "thing" for sweetness. I know I did, and it was not easy in the beginning for me, because I wanted to hold on to flavored waters (like Crystal Light, that kind of thing). I didn't know how I would ever be able to not have those drinks! But there is a form of sugar in all of them. There's even a form of sugar in all diet sodas. This was a hard pill to swallow, but I guess I wanted abstinence and recovery more than I wanted to keep my disease alive and well, so I finally was able to completely surrender to the food plan, get a sponsor, and start working the Steps of Recovery.
The food plan is only a suggestion, but it has helped many, many people. From it, I learned what foods specifically I could eat, and in what amounts, so that my disease could go into remission. I will never be cured, but I can have a daily reprieve from this addiction as long as I remain completely abstinent and also attend to the other part of the program, which is recovery of my mind and spirit, which had become very damaged from food addiction.
So glad you came to this forum to ask your question, Jaime. Wishing you a very good recovery!

I would like to know this, too, as I have a friend who swears by coconut oil, water, etc., and the benefits.
