I just wanted to send greetings to fellow recovering food addicts in Ireland. We have a great meeting every week in Hope house, Foxford, County Mayo on a Monday night at 8pm. (There are also meetings in Sligo and Dublin and Donegal.)
I would just like to say that I'm very grateful I had such a good group within driving distance and really value all I have learned about recovery from this disease from FAA members and the books. In the early days I felt very anxious to get things right and the slogan 'Easy Does It' and 'First Things First' were really helpful to me when I was in the kitchen trying to do three things at once! I knew I needed to slow down a bit and get more serenity. If I feel ok inside myself now everything's fine and I don't need to eat or think about food until my next meal. I still prepare food portions in advance. I would also try to remember that I'm aiming for serenity in my eating and also in other areas of my life and that I don't need to take on other people's problems just my own. I do service and like to spread the message of hope.
Being released from the slavery of food addiction is wonderful and something that makes me feel joyful and blessed whenever I think of what I've gained in recovery. I only wish all food addicts could find this way to recovery because for me there was no other way that would work. Keep coming back - it really does work when you work it!
