Two days of following the food plan, I binged terribly. Why? How do I stop it?

I am new to this program, and was very happy and excited to start the new healthy food plan. I wrote everything down and did good for 2 days. Today I am feeling a little tired, had a proper lunch according to the plan, and then all of a sudden I started to binge and lost all control. Now I feel terrible. How do I ever learn to stop this behavior?????

    Hi Rommel,

I too suffered from the 2 day clean then break habit! 1) continue with your food plan for the rest of today. It will make you feel better. Promise. Nothing worse then falling off and then kicking your OWN hiney while your down! LOL 2) Don't dwell on the binge! There really is no point in it. 3) Learn HALT. Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. Mine worse one is Tired. Tired used to get me ALL the time especially right after naps! HALT is when you are more proned to binge. Although it could be several things that triggered your break you did mention Tired. Write down your feelings when you get tired. I feel very uncomfortable with a STRONG urge to eat WHATEVER!! 4) Reach out to fellows. Look like you just did but try to do it before the first bite. LOL 5) Ask your Higher power for help. I know it sounds like alot but you never know which one will work at the time of your triggered binge. I find that all of them work for me. For instance I love that I get to talke to lots of food addicts at the click of a button. Spent at least an hour so far. That's an hour not eating wrong things or even thinking about it. It is an hour spent building up strength to help me make it thru the day! Keep pressing forward.

    Hi Rommel,
Know that whatever feelings are coming up that is creating the urge to binge will pass. Breathe in and out slowly and focus on the breaths. Remember that we are just as powerless over these urges as we are about the fact that we are breathing, but THEY WILL PASS. It is really good once you know that they are temporary. Really really good. I didn't used to believe it but now I KNOW it and on the rare occassion that I have such thoughts I breathe through it.

The detox period can be especially hard because a lot more thoughts and feelings can feel uncomfortable and it can seem incessant. It will pass--remind yourself you are in detox and that it is actually a GOOD thing even though it doesn't feel so good. It will change if you let yourself get through it.

    You can do it!

    Many blessings,

Hi, that is really great advice, ora, am on day 2 of my detox. Am hopeful because of turning it over to my Higher Power. I also know I have to do MY part, staying away from junk food places etc. "It will change if you let yourself get through it." Good to know. Thanks.

    Welcome to the newcomers!

You're doing the right thing for yourself, getting onto the suggested FAA food plan. Withdrawal is a primary symptom of food addiction, so don't quit, no matter what! What I'd suggest is going to some phone meetings. They are very motivating and when I go, I know I'm in the right place for me, a food addict. I'm with others who have the same disease and we are all in recovery together. "Together we can do what I cannot do alone". You can get the phone number and meeting schedule here:

    http://www.foodaddictsanonymous.org/phone-meetings

    D
uring the last five minutes of each meeting, phone numbers are exchanged. You can get phone numbers of FAA members to call in between meetings for support, information, and encouragement. Also, keep coming to Online Support and let us know how you're doing so we can support you as well. So glad you're all here!

Good going, nevertoolate. You should have passed through the worst of the withdrawals by now, and it'll be getting easier as the days go by. Thanks for coming, thanks for sharing!

Day 11 now and I think you are right about the worst withdrawals being gone, just had a dill pickle I shouldn't have had between meals but I just bought them and keep thinking about them...have pretty much been sticking to the food plan....it really does help but you do have to get creative. found out oat bran with applesauce mixed in or fresh pineapple cut up from the deli is great! I forgot how sweet pineapple is....something sweet occasionally is nice especially since I gave up splenda...thanks for all the online support and tips. thank God for this group, it has made all the difference to me. pineaapple in brown rice is probably also very good.

Congratulations, nevertoolate... Day 11, whoooo hoooooo! I found giving up the artificial sweeteners did actually work out OK for me. Having fruit twice a day (I follow the FAA food plan) has given me the sweetness I might have been missing. But somehow, since the s/f/w is no longer in my body, I don't actually have cravings for sweet things anymore, anyway. You may find this to be true for you as well, as the days go by. Hang in there, you're doing great. (P.S. It's very helpful to have a sponsor to report/commit your food to each day... it helps us to be accountable for these things, I've found. If you don't have a sponsor yet, you might want to look for one... you can find an online sponsor through the FAA Loop or through the Online meetings. http://www.foodaddictsanonymous.org/meetings-events)
