This comes from FAA's Guide to Abstinence:

    8. If constipation is a problem, eight 8-oz. glasses of water per day added to your meal plan will help. Exercise, even walking, will also help. Two teaspoons of ground flaxseed on your cereal is also useful.

The Guide to Abstinence is where the FAA suggested food plan is. It's in some of the FAA literature and can also be found on the FAA Home Page at the bottom right. Here's a direct link:

I have had that problem also many times.. the opposite of bingeing so much food, going to the bathroom many times, then cutting down with food , is a change to the body.. Like it was mentioned drink lots of water, I use flaxseed in my cereal and sometimes flaxseed oil also.. Eat vegetables, they are bulky, spinach, green beans.. Stay away from the brown rice for a week or so.. I eat that seldom, but use the flaxseed and fruits apples work for me. Hope this helps you.
    Arlene in Ocala. hugs..

I tried dulcolax 2 days in a row and nothing. Gave up and got prune juice even though it has sugar, was desperate, 5 days is too much!!! It works like a charm, like always. Am going to stay away from brown rice, was getting suspicious of it. thanks for the tips.

Concerning constipation - my most common solution that I tell others is lots of water. However another possibility besides the faxseed which is mentioned in the food plan, is Magnesium Citrate and can be gotten ( a clean one) from the health food store. You will know when you are taking too much because you will have loose stools.

    Hi nevertoolate!

Coffee is a diuretic and therefore depletes the extra water in your body. The fluid that your body would use to blend with fiber to create a bowel movement is being removed by the coffee. Try to compensate by drinking more water and decrease coffee intake if you are able to. Decaf coffee will not have the same effect as the culprit (caffiene) is not there. Hope this helps! Good luck!
