    Cooked Vegetables

If you want to gag, on your cooked veggies, perhaps you are overcooking them. Lightly steam, or roast in oven or on the grill or if it helps you stay abstinent, eat all your vegetables raw until you get more days. Then branch out with interesting seasonings….or is the real truth, you don't like veggies? I've never met a veggie I didn't like, but know many who don't like veggies. Keeping an open mind really helped me when I was new because I wanted the freedom from cravings that everyone talked about. That was over 17 years ago. FAA was founded nearly 24 years ago.

I never liked veggies and cooking them lightly steemed not overcooked.. As a child I was told to eat all my food and was over cooked and did gag as couldnt leave the table till done.. I eat green veggies, steam, some raw with my salad. I like to roast them or grill them, I mix my veggies with mushrooms, onions peppers, but do rotate my foods.. I have my favorites but do have to rotate, I eat some than I dont like too much but in time the food buds chat as abstinents increases, food bud changes.. Its one day at a time, easy does it girl.. One veggie at a time.

Another idea, besides the ones mentioned, would be to have a cup of tomato juice or V8... one cup counts as one cooked vegetable. I also am wondering if you had an aversion to vegetables before you came to FAA, or if this is something new since you got on the food plan?

Please be very, very gentle with yourself, adega, and don't panic.... you will be able to eat well, and you will be able to recover from food addiction. When you do try to have the cooked veggies, take it one bite at a time. Take a cleansing breath to release any tension, and then give yourself the gift of one bite of healthy food. Try doing this one bite at a time and see if it might help.

Let us know how you're doing with this. You may not be the only newcomer who has faced this and your sharing might help others who come to Online Support for help.

    Best wishes,

    Adega,

I am wondering how you are doing with the vegetables? I too want this program to work for you!

I am wondering how you cook your vegetables? Do you steam them? Is is a certian type of vegetable causing you to gag? There are so many types of vegetables on our food plan, have you tried roasting them or grilling them. I think they are really yummy this way, you might want to try a medley of three or more types at a time to measure 1 cup. Do you like v-8 juice or red beets these are cooked vegetables? You could also cook them and chill them and add them in a salad along with your protein, Hope all is working out for you!

I am new to this board as of today (Sat 10-15-2011). I was in FA for 3 1/2 years and did exstemly well with everything.I never broke.

I also am Gluten free. So someone suggested this website to check out this site. This is for me!

My question is, in starting the food plan do I have the same oz's I had on the FA plan? I stoped going to FA in May, and I've gained 4 lbs and want to nip this in the bud. I lost 50lbs the first 4 months in FA and changed quite a few sizes that I never want to go back to. I have Ataxia which makes it hard for me to go to meeting phsyically so this sounds great to do on line.
Will someone give me advise on where to start on here and the oz's? When the food plan says 1 veggie does that mean 1 serving is 4 oz's or 6 oz's or 8 oz's? Thanks for any help and guidance you can give me on this! :-)

    Hi Jeannie and welcome!

cooked vegetables are 1 cup, measured by volume (8 oz)
salad is 1 cup, measured by volume (8 oz)

some members weigh on the scale and they have differing amounts but the 1 cup measurements are the official guideline. IN FAA the food plan is only a suggestion and can be modified with the guidance of your sponsor or a physician.

    Sincerely,
    Ora food addict CO

What my first sponsor (who taught me quite a lot about following the suggested FAA food plan) told me was that if I couldn't, for some reason, measure out a cup of vegetables or fruit, then I would use 6 ounces instead. I do know from being on another food plan years ago that 8 ounces of salad is an enormous amount, especially compared to the 1 cup measurement that is the intention of FAA's suggested plan.

I measure most of my vegetables by using the 1 cup guideline. One thing I weigh instead is celery sticks, since they are hard to get a good measurement from in a cup. I have 6 ounces of celery sticks, and this works well.

From what I understand, FA sponsors give their sponsees a food plan, and there's not a published food plan for everyone to look at. I've heard of FA newcomers who are not allowed grains, etc. In FAA, there's a suggested food plan that works for many, many people. It can be modified, if necessary, in certain situations (medical conditions, athletes, etc.) with the assistance of a physician or a sponsor. Here's a link to the food plan:

esides online meetings and Open Chats, there are also 5-6 phone meetings per day. Many find the phone meetings useful and supportive as well. I like them because I like hearing the voices of my fellow food addicts. I also like online "stuff" and have a face-to-face meeting to go to each week as well. There's definitely support for our recovery here in FAA! I welcome you, Jeannie, and wish you well in your recovery!

    Vegetables

Is ok to have a double portion of cooked or raw vegetables for lunch and dinner, instead of a single portion of each?
