    Headed in the right direction...

This is my first time to FAA...I have been attending NA meeting for the last 6 months to help support a close friend and really have taken a liking to the 12 step approach. I couldn't really connect with the people of NA on a deep spiritual level because I lacked a history of abuse with illegal drugs. However, I do have a history with the abuse of food especially during emotionally charged events both positive and negative, which is why I am here. I do have clear addicitive behavior and very much so when it comes to food.

As a first step I have located a face-to-face meeting in my area and have even contacted the secretary of the meeting in hopes of getting conected with the group as soon as possible. I have a reached a point in life that living with my addiction is out of control and hitting bottom is near. I want to live a life free from the holds of my addicition and prosper in ways I never thought possible before.

Congratulations and welcome, on getting involved in FAA and posting on these forums. You will find a lot of support in these rooms. I am glad you have already found a face to face meeting, and when you want you can fill in with phone meetings as will as online meetings and open chat in those rooms. You should be able to find the listing of the meetings on the website. This program works if we work it, one day at a time. Glad you are here and keep coming back

There are so many aspects to this program that can all come together to supplement a life free of addictive eating. What I love about FAA is the encouragement to do what is best for your lifestyle. Everyone's approach is unique, and I have learned so much from other members, reading the boards and the literature opened up my mind to a group of people I can identify with. Good luck to you, welcome!

today I read a wonderful reading from food from the soul...I would love to quote.... We learn other ways of thinking, and then we build on thoes healthier thoughts and reinforce them. We begin to beleive that we deserve recovery, and because we come to believe this wholeheartedly, it becomes our reality!!! pg 260 food for the soul

I did not get this over night, I had to work for it, but I am worth the work!

Welcome to the best program in the world! I for one have never felt better. And all i had to do is just keep coming back, listen, and don't eat sugar, flour or wheat no matter what!

Today is my 3rd day of being abstinent and I feel great. The first two days were really hard but my headache is gone and the hunger pains are subsiding but it is still a struggle to not think about when I get to eat next or what food I will be eating. Thank you everyone for the encouragement.

Congratulations, ChemHBr! What helped me a lot was to plan my food ahead for the day, and then I reported what I was going to have to my sponsor. Once I did that, I was able to forget about it until the time came to prepare my meal. If I worried in between meals about what I'd be having for lunch, say, I'd go and look at my plan. This was reassuring, and I was then able to again forget about it.

Right now (at least when you were on Day 3), you were still very much in the withdrawal process, and hunger is a part of that. So know that it will pass as you pass through your detox, which you are doing. Keep up the good work, ChemHBr, you're doing great!

I have found that if I batch cook, weigh and measure ahead of time then refrig or freeze my meals they are ready to go at any time and I can pack for a whole day and not miss my timing. Just a thought.
