Affirmations, mantras, prayers or poems that help with negative thinking

I've always had a bad attitude towards exercising. And I used the affirmation, "My body loves to exercise". I wrote it on my weekly planner for several weeks and it really helped to change my attitude. I didn't know about affirmations till someone in FAA explained that they are statements that are written in the present tense like they are already true. It's actually a way to reprogram the brain and it worked for me.

Affirmations are a huge part of my recovery as well. I heard one early in the program that has inspired me "Measure my food in black and white so I can live my life in color." The visualization is totally inspiring that when food is not on our minds they can expand and really thrive in other aspects. Cheers!

    Apache Prayer

May the sun bring you new energy by day.
May the moon softly restore you by night.
May the rain wash away your worries.
May the breeze blow new strength into your being.
May you walk gently through this world,
And know its beauty all the days of your life.

    Great Spirit Prayer
"Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,
Whose breath gives life to all the world.
Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.
Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice
Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.
Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.
Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy
    Myself.
Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.

God, help me listen to my Higher Self as You and I make the changes in my life that will allow me to live a free, useful and happy life. Help me to not find fault with all that I do and with those who cross my path. As I continue to stay abstinent, help me be released from the cravings for foods that are not in my best interest. Help me learn that food is to nourish my body so my spirit can carry out your plans for me. Help me to be compassionate, trusting, forgiving, loving and kind to myself and others as I serve you and the people on earth.
    Amen.

Wow, these are all beautiful sharings ~ thanks so much, everyone! I love this affirmation:

My body is my oldest friend and steadiest companion.

When I came to FAA, I did not love my body...not one bit. This affirmation has helped me to have compassion for this wonderful body that has taken me through the years, through thick & thin, through all I've subjected it to (which has been plenty, believe me!) Being abstinent and healthy, at long last, has brought me to a new, long overdue, appreciation for all of who I am. Thank you FAA!

Another one I love, had it on a Post-It on my mirror for a while where I could read it every day:

I forgive myself for not forgiving myself.

    Self-explanatory....

Another one (a more recent one for me):

I rest in peace and I wake in joy.

    Sliver, Slice, Slab, Slob

    Sliver, Slice Slab, Slob
Written by a loving Food Addict

Once a sliver, now a slice
Goes on my plate, oh it's sooo nice,
Once a sliver, now a slice
It's always "grey" foods - never ice
The slice gets large, becomes a slab,
    I think today it's all I'll grab.
    Another slice becomes slab,
"I'm still OK, It's not all that bad"
My slabs evolve; they take life's space,
They consume my mind and my soul's place
My slabs now call me all day to eat,
Even when my stomach hurts, or my feet.
Little did I know my end could be near,
When a sliver came 'round and bent my ear
I don't know what to do, I call for aid
How could I have been so stupid, so totally betrayed?
From out of nowhere a calm voice calls out,
And gives me advice, but doesn't shout.
The next time when hearing sliver,
Just fear his words, allow yourself to shiver.
For sliver so innocently brings on slice,
He lies to you, and is everything BUT nice.
Slice invites slabs and they bring their mob,
Then very soon, you're eating like a slob.
Slabs consume your life, your needs don't exist
No matter what you do, you can't resist.
I can handle this and come to your aid.
Please forgive yourself even though you've strayed.
I'll help you get out of this and release your pain,
Just give this problem to me --- you have everything to gain.
Is it really that simple? I don't even know you.
How can I trust a stranger to know what to do?
But you do sound wise, who could you be?
Just call me God....or your HP
