It's good to see you here online, welcome to FAA. Keep coming back, go to some phone meetings, see that there are so many people with the same experiences as you, know that you are not alone and don't have to be....best wishes to you.

    Hello Jill

Welcome to Food Addicts Anonymous, glad you are here. Wow! your quote "I steal food" I can relate!! I used to steal food too, in the grocery store eating the grapes, cherries etc while shopping by the time I got to check out I ate almost 1/2 the bag, or stealing olives from the salad bar or what ever I could pop in my mouth, I used to do start ups at work I was the 1st person in the plant and all the goodies left by my co-workers machines I would finish them off... Thats not all of it I would steal my kids candy from their easter baskets, Halloween candy from the little orange plastic pumpkins and the Christmas stockings too and even off their plates at dinner time...Its no wonder I got to weigh 343lbs

I am thankful ...ever so grateful I found FAA!!! I do not do these behaviors any more. I am not alone, this is a we program we help each other overcome the ravages from food addiction, We have wonderful tools below are some helpful links.

    Beginning abstinence

    Hi Jill,

Your abstinence can start at any time of the day or evening. The minute we begin to abstain from sugar/flour/wheat, we have begun our recovery from food addiction. Our abstinence doesn't have to wait... as soon as we're ready, we can begin. For so many of us, we were always going to do something, starting "tomorrow", or "after my birthday", or "after the first of the year". Tomorrow didn't arrive so many times!

Glad you're wanting to start, Jill. I recommend taking a look at the suggested FAA food plan, and coming to some meetings as soon as you possible can. There are 5-6 phone meetings each day, plus an Internet meeting using e-mails (called the FAA Loop), online meetings, and face-to-face meetings.

Keep coming back, Jill. FAA really does work. (Thank goodness for that!)

oh thank you so much for your replies, ive been so anxious about all this...I chose WantingIntegrity as much user name as follow-through is not my strong point! im so afraid to fail, im usually afraid to get started.

im on such a tight budget as I have cancer and get so very tired and depressed, im afraid I buy cheap foods and hope to find help here, so glad to see all this support, its overwhelming! I did get to a phone meetng last night, im so afraid to "jump in" and claim my seat (as others were saying). I guess ill be gentle with myself.

Ive lost my higher power...hoping to find it/him/her again.

is it a must to purchase books or can I just focus on the food? looks like finding a sponsor is my number one goal?

    in gratitude,

    Jill

    Hi Jill,

Congratulations on your abstinence! Yes, what you're experiencing is definitely withdrawal. Unfortunately, the only way out is through, so hang in there. I'd recommend drinking lots of water to help flush the toxins out of your system a little more quickly, and getting plenty of rest in these early days. Also, please come to some phone meetings for support. During the last five minutes of the meeting, phone numbers are exchanged, and you can leave your phone number is you'd like (but don't have to). Be sure to start up a list for yourself of phone numbers of FAA members so you can have people to call in between meetings. They'll help you with questions, encouragement, support, etc. You'll also be able to start looking for a sponsor that way too, if you'd like. That's how I found my sponsor.

Almond milk is not on the food plan, and isn't nutritionally equal to milk. There's only 1 gram of protein in a cup of almond milk, while there are 8 grams protein in a cup of cow's milk or a cup of buttermilk. Milk also provides carbohydrates, which balance with the protein, as called for in the FAA suggested food plan. If you're unable to have dairy products, you can substitute 2 ounces of any kind of protein instead. Even if you do have dairy, you can still have the 2 ounces of protein instead from time to time. For instance, one idea is to have a hard boiled egg with an orange for your Metabolic Adjustment.

I'm very happy for you that you've started your abstinence. Making that decision is half the battle, Jill, and now you're on your way! Keep coming back, and keep sharing... let us know how you're doing.
