Hi tinydancer - I want to say two things right off the bat: I haven't had bypass surgery and I am a food addict. I know that the plan of sound nutrition that FAA has developed for food addicts works to stop cravings and grazing. I know the 12 steps help us work through issues that push us toward food that isn't good for us.

That said, I strongly urge you to take this food plan to your doctor, describe what you're experiencing and get some direction from your health professional. The quantities that are listed on the plan may not be appropriate for you, as written, and may need to be modified.

Please, don't take this lightly...it's your life and you are worth it! Linda

    Thanks for the assistance Linda
I am not due to see my surgeon until July. My doctor does not recommend snacking. same as food plan and the way I have been taught to eat is to eat protein first, vegetables second, starchy veg or grains third. Cravings have stopped although seeing foods that are not on my plan can trigger desire but I know that I do not have to eat just because I want it. I am finding it ok to eat protein amounts cooked vegetable amounts occassionally can get some of the starchy vege or grain in. The biggest difference has been with reading labels and knowing that sugar free on label does not mean sugar free.

    Hello

I am Alice a food addict recovering the FAA way here in Pennsylvania down 140lbs and I have found a peacefulness in side of me, I have not had any surgery but my doctor had suggested it to me many years ago...I had a problem with sugar-free things too, I was told when shopping to referrer to the FAA pamphlet 99 names of sugar flour & wheat below is a link. It is amazing once it is all out of your system the cravings go away and the grazing will stop...Here is a link if you would like a copy to take shopping with you. It is one of our wonderful tools and its only one dollar!! Glad you are reading labels!!! My blessings to you on your journey so glad you are here and keep coming back!
