How long do you have to be abstinent to become a sponsor?

We are a small meeting in Australia and wondering how long our members have to be abstinent for before they become a sponsor? Are there any specific requirements?

Actually FAA has no requirements for sponsorship.

Most people discuss this with their sponsors after being asked by someone to sponsor them.

As you probably already know, FAA encourages each person who sincerely wants a sponsor to take the responsibility to contact other people in the Fellowship. FAA encourages people to take down the names and numbers of those who say things they relate to so that they can ask a few simple questions when they make contact - can tell so much from how they answer.

Some people come to FAA from other 12 step Fellowships and are quite familiar with the Steps and Traditions and others are totally brand new and have never been to any 12 step meetings till they came to FAA.
