Looking for a Sponsor
Hello,
I emailed into the group about 6 weeks ago for the first time. I ended up joining (FA) Food Addicts in Recovery because I had friends from AA who went there even though I was more drawn to FAA.
I have been abstinent from all sugar, flour and wheat and followed the food plan that my sponsor in FA gave me. Something does not feel right in this program. I am seeing that I want to give FAA a try instead as it seems to be more spiritual and less controlling.
A little bit about myself - I have studied nutrition for 20 years both school and personal research. Knowledge did not keep me from becoming a food addict. I have struggled between eating perfectly, organic, pure living to binging until I gain a lot of weight. The yo, yo effect basically. I am now sober from drugs and alcohol for 4 years and in the last 4 years gained 50 pounds (which I have now in the last 6 weeks lost 16 of due to my abstinence through FA)
I live in Camarillo, CA (Ventura County just outside of Los Angeles) There are no meetings nearby and I cannot make the ones in Carpenteria, which is about 45 minutes away and the closest to me.
I am looking for a sponsor, preferably someone who is also in AA, and understands the importance of eating organically when possible, no artificial sweeteners or chemicals in food, no GMO foods, no hormones in meat and milk etc.
One of the things I found to be repulsive in FA was how addicted everyone seem to be to artificial sweeteners and used it as a replacement for sugar. Although I can go on about the things I did not agree with in that program, I try to stay positive and look at the good that I did get from that program and move on with getting a sponsor in FAA and seeing how I can stay abstinent here.
Would anyone like to offer to sponsor me? I am a person who loves to see the truth about myself no matter what, and love the 12 steps of recovery as they worked miracles on me in AA.
Love and Light,
Rose H.

Welcome to FAA, Rose.
The phone meetings that are later in the evening often have West Coast people on them. The link for the list of phone meetings can be found on the home page under "meetings".
It's good to hear that you are very conscious of healthy eating. And I have a question for you - have you heard of "pink slime"? I understand it's a processed by product of beef that is being added to ground beef and it sounds too processed for me, as I'm one of those very sensitive food addicts. It sounds like something that I need to avoid - can you shed any light on this?

Don't really know anything about the pink slime - seen some pics on facebook about it though.
