    Dear Marilyn

We want it to be easy, because we are humans, poor imperfect fleshly humans.

We don't want to admit we have no control because we are addicts.

We can't change that so we have to accept it don't we, and ask for help to be the best we can.

My favourite scripture is Isaiah 41 verses 10 and 13. God is there for us, to help us, and always wants the best for us.

I've had a struggle this weekend but am blessed with a 15 year old daughter who keeps a sharp eye on me and supports me.

I'm praying for you Marilyn, that God will fill that empty part of you and help you to stay clean.

    With love

    Victoria xx

    Praying to stay clean today.
Thank you Victoria, I so appreciate your support and wish you the very best also....
It's May 9 and 1:20 a.m. and so far haven't had s/f/w.....have good food in the frig, if I can stay away from the junk food places today, it will be day 1. I pray for my HP's help and grace....I know this can work, I've done it before...just have to let the cravings go by and be patient, let the sugar get out of the body, it takes a couple of weeks and then I feel so much better....gaining back 10 or more pounds round the middle feels really bad, almost like a self punishment, this is a complicated disease
.....but I still believe it's never too late to change if we are really willing to do what it takes...

You'll be in my thoughts :-)

You are right, it's never too late to start again, to love ourselves enough to do the right thing.

Self-destructive behaviour patterns are so hard to break but with God's grace and support and the encouragement from our fellow FAs we can do it.

    love

It does have something to do with loving ourselves enough to do what's good for us.....what's healthy for us....there are many emotional issues involved besides the food addiction....running to the old junk foods when we feel lonely or depressed is such a trap.....it really does nothing for us......except keep that cycle going.

Hi, Victoria...same place....most days stuck in sugar...but not givng up, how about you? Just had my 73rd birthday, thank
    God.
I keep thinking (like a FOOL) I can just stop eating the crap....stupid aren't we? But every day, I go to the store like a robot and do the same thing. How to break this cycle?

So glad to hear from you Marilyn,

we are such perverse creatures aren't we! always going after the thing that hurts us... :-(

habits are hard to change. i was watching a program on tv about overeating and it said to eat with your non-dominant hand instead. because you then have to think about it more, you eat less... seemed to work on telly anyway!

how about deciding if you are wanting to eat s/f/w you will never DRIVE to the store to get it, but you have to walk. Might that put you off, or at least make it harder?

Also are you like me in this respect? If I was eating something I knew was not good for me I would cram it in as quickly as possible, barely tasting it. What about taking small bites and really savouring them? My mum always was told "you should drink your food and eat your drink" which means chew food until it is like a drink and not just gulp down drinks but hold them in the mouth and taste them. Anything to make the whole process slower.

I'm probably wrong to not say STOP EATING THAT FOOD THIS INSTANT! but life's not always like that. If you are in the grip of sugar, minimising the damage to yourself as you work towards stopping might be good? What do you think?

Thinking of you Marilyn and sending a big hug,

    Victoria x

Thank you much Tortus...you have much good advice. Minimizing the damage is a good one....today I will work on that.
Walking to a store would be out of the question, it is very far and I am 73 and use a cane. I would not be able to get any food but I get your point. Staying away from McDonald's and DrugMart would be great and I CAN do that if I get willing. The footwork we have to do, God will do what we CANNOT DO but
we have to do what we can. JUST START with one tiny step would also be good advice.
caring and wise people like you make this program work. :)
