    exercise

Hi, I am new to FAA. Is it OK to exercise? Do I have to increase amount of food in basic food plan? Say I walk/run for an hour 4 days a week and lift weights 3 days. Or would it be better to do lighter aerobics for half an hour and lift weights for 15 minutes, say only 4 days per week total? Would you recommend just doing light exercise or increasing amount of food? Thank you for any suggestions.

i walk 20 minutes on my treadmill daily,i do a light aerobic, 20 minutes on my total gym daily,30 minutes on my bike daily. i do not increase my food intake.

everyone should get their doctors permission to just walk a little if possible. i saw a man the other day walking, he would walk a few steps then sit ,and he kept doing this till he reached the corner.

The FAA food plan supports 45 minutes of daily exercise. And I'm not sure if they include their warm up exercises and cool off time in this 45 minutes - might want to check with those who are active or ask this question the last 5 minutes of the phone meeting. I have found that just a few minutes of walking daily has helped my blood sugar come down. I had a hard time getting started with the exercising and used a daily affirmation of "my body loves to exercise" to help me change my attitude.

Even though the Food Plan supports exercise, I find myself literally starving after a workout. I have tried eating before the gym but that does not work because I am starving within 20 minutes after the work out. I have the best luck working out immediately after waking up, then my hunger is satisfied by my breakfast but my lunch has to be early. I have tired to have a fruit before the workout to finish the meal plan after the workout that has limited success as well. I will keep trying to find what works.

Great question and responses! Jackie is correct in saying that the FAA food plan is designed to support 45 minutes of daily exercise. Anyone with special needs, for instance athletes who are more active than most of us, may need to make modifications to the food plan with the assistance of a physician or a sponsor. If you don't have a sponsor yet, I'd suggest making it a priority, because sponsors help not only with these kinds of things but all other kinds of things having to do with us recovering from our food addiction.

    Keep coming, keep exercising! :D
