    Trouble Starting

    Hi,
    Just starting, finding it hard to commit to the food plan. I am afraid for some reason. I need to connect with someone as I am feeling all alone, I have posted but have not gotten any replies as yet. Is there anyone who can help me start on this journey.

    Needing some one's help to get abstinent.

    Hi Striver and April,

    I'm so sorry that your pleas for help went unanswered. The FAA Online Support is new, began with the new website that launched in July, and I've heard that recently a structure has been set up so that people asking for help can get their questions answered on a reliable basis. As I understand it, that will be happening extremely soon. So hang in there, this in not a reflection of Food Addicts Anonymous as a whole, I can assure you!

    The best thing you can each do is to start getting to some FAA meetings. You can find information on meetings held in person and on phone meetings right here on the website's Home Page under "Meetings". There are also Online Meetings and something called the FAALoop for people who want to go that route. Some of us combine different types of meetings. I'd suggest going to several types of meetings because they're all different. I also recommend that you go to at least six meetings before making any decisions about whether you believe you need help or deciding that you aren't a food addict after all.

    Good luck!s Maybe we'll come across each other at a meeting soon, I hope so!

    Hello Striver, I hope that you get this message. I agree with the prior post. It is soooo important to attend meetings also to call others from the phone list you can get from the meeting. I find the face to face meetings very refreshing. They help me to focus and stick to the plan. Get back with me and let me know if were able to find one in your area. I will check back later. I hope this helps.

    Re: Trouble Starting

    Hi Strive and April,

    My name is Diane and I am a grateful food addict who has been in FAA recovery for the past five years. I am doing service in outreach here today in the FAA Online Support. I thought I would follow up with both of you to see how things are going for you. Just to review with you, I would like to list the following suggestions:

    * Go to the FAA website and read over the FAA Tools for Recovery;

    * Go to the FAA website and read over the Guide To Abstinence FAA food plan;

    * Attend meetings (telephone, online, and FAALoop);

    * Continue to stay connected here on the FAA Online Support;

    There are so many helpful tools for recovery in FAA. Abstinence, going to meetings, sponsorship, reading, journaling, telephone, and of course saying prayers. Please feel free to send me an e-mail me. I would be grateful to share my experience, strength and hope with you.

    I remain forever grateful for the FAA fellowship,
    Diane

    Yes, I am also having a hard time... I'm trying to cut down a bit at a time so that it doesn't feel totally unmanageable. I'm realizing that it's really about not wanting to sit with bad feelings rather than change a food thing. I feel very resistant to changing my diet because I am afraid someone is going to try and take my security blanket! The truth is that I am in charge of my life... my body... and what goes into it, so I have to find a way to comfort myself without eating. Is it possible? walks, baths, journaling doesn't really cut it for me, although I suppose this forum is helping me to journal and it does help.
