    surrender to the higher power

yesterday, a FAA member called me. we talked a lot about variety of topics: 12 steps, food plan, abstinence etc. during our conversation, i expressed my doubts and hesitations about being giving into the mission of FAA. she paused for a while, and then answered, "whenever you have doubts surrender to your higher power!!"
this morning when i went to the gym, i found somebody else is using my favorite machine (and i use that machine all the time). i felt like skipping my exercise for today. then i surrendered and prayed to my higher power to bless me with the strength to stay back in the gym. i hopped on to another machine (which i thought was boring) and started working out. to my surprise, i did complete my workout and happily realized that i enjoyed it. i am grateful for these little moments of happiness. and i am grateful for FAA.

this is about my new thanksgiving day story:

today is my 10th day of abstinence. i am grateful to my hp for that. yesterday was thanksgiving day. and i spent all night on day-before-yesterday to make earrings for my friends. this is the first year that i did not give my friends pies and candies. i joined a jewelry-making class since my first day of abstinence. so, i am not yet very good at it. needless to say that, the earrings i made for them were not all good looking. i did not like them myself. but, i was thrilled to find that my friends loved them. they wore my earrings instantly after opening the wrappers. my best friend decided to join the jewelry class with me from next week. i am so excited!! it was the best thanksgiving i ever celebrated in the last 8 years. i am grateful for that. today i have more faith on my hp.

    coming out of the closet!!

yesterday was thanksgiving day. and i decided to tell my parents about my food addiction and the fact that i have embraced the missions and principles of FAA. it was challenging for me. i come from a VERY traditional society where food (with s,f, and w) is the primary medium of socialization, and expression of love. the concept of "food addiction" is alien to my culture. so, i was feeling quite apprehensive to talk to my folks about that. i surrendered and prayed to my hp to for strength. i called my mother and told her everything. she was upset and sad!! not because of the fact that i cannot intake s,w, and f anymore but, because i am suffering since the last 8 years because of my overeating. just like me, she did not realize that it might be a disease and not the lack of my self-control. she was glad that now she knew the reason. in stead to berating me, she encouraged me to stay on the plan. and also told me that my health and happiness is most important to her. i am grateful for having an understanding family and a wonderful mother.

my first visit to starbucks after abstinence:

today is my 17th day of abstinent. yesterday, after dinner, i went to starbucks coffee shop with my best friend. i felt quite apprehensive on my to starbucks because my major attractions in starbucks have always been cappuccino and caramel brownie. i surrendered and prayed to my hp so that i can remain clean in the coffee shop. my friend had a regular latte and i joined her with an herbal mint tea. everybody around were having either the holiday special treats (eggnog latte, cinnamon caramel frappe) or the snacks like marble cake, gingerbread muffins, white chocolate scones etc. but i was glad to find myself enjoying the mint tea and having a nice time with my friend. i am so grateful to my hp for another great day of abstinence. i pray for abstinence for the rest of my life.

Good for you!! Today is the Holiday Party for my Women's Circle - I brougt a fruit tray to take to the party - though I won't partake in the traditional dishes - I thought to bring something healthy for everyone, and I will take some home as well to eat at another time. I know it was difficult facing the coffee shop demons so to speak - the lattes, and sweets - but you chose the healthy choice and for that you can congratulate yourself on a mission accomplished - one of many - but it gets easier with time - soon it's second nature. We will achieve our goal of healthy lifestyles if we believe we can!

A few minor adjustments equal major change!
