    Raw foods

Hi artyst31....I looked into raw foods, love the idea, but, like you, I live in a cold climate (norhern MI) and raw foods in the middle of winter doesn't cut it! I'm also in a rural area, so not much option re fresh produce, either. I like the term "quasi-vegan", I have been vegetarian for 26 yrs, and try to avoid animal products, although am not terribly strict---I will occasionally eat eggs humanely raised and will have cheese when it's too hard to avoid it... I have been looking into FAA for a few weeks now, and am struggling with doing the "food plan" as vegan as possible. I hate eating too much processed soy meats, and have been relying too much on nuts for protein. How do you manage the food plan as a vegan? How do you, as a vegan, define "abstinence"? Any advice would be welcome!!

    hi,

to find a sponsor, you should attend the phone or face to face meetings and then tell them you need a sponsor, people exchange numbers and are willing to help out. at least thats how i started off, if that helps you at all!!

    Re: Raw foods

    Hi There,
I am a former raw foodie. I lasted nearly a year until the food addict in me reared her ugly head and I was downing nuts and raisins by the pound. Not good. :(

I also live in a cold climate, the Austrian Alps, so variety was a serious problem. I know now that eating 100% raw was just another attempt at controlling my binge eating pattern. I am a food addict, I accept it, and the way I feel today, I am grateful.

I gave up the veganism when I came to FAA. There are many reasons for this, but even if I continued to be vegan it is doable in FAA. I am vegetarian and I find the eating plan provides plenty of protein choices and a healthy variety of food.

I am a kickboxing, yoga and fitness trainer so I am very active. And the food plan provides me with the energy I need to do my classes and training. I had to tweak it a bit, but it is great. So I know you can be active, vegetarian and a recovering food addict.

I am happy to talk to anyone on this topic.

    Re: Raw foods

So why should you start eating a raw food diet? You’re probably thinking about how hard it will be to transition and start getting used to a whole new menu.

But I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be like that. The benefits of eating more raw foods far outweigh the hassle you have to go through in order to learn a few new tricks and recipes to make it work.

    Re: Raw foods

I've found a wide range of veggie protein sources just by googling. I think the raisins probably contributed heavily to binging on the nuts and raisins. Raisins are one of the next closest's thing to a candy bar. There are certain fruits to be weary of that can cause triggers and raisins are definitely one of them!

I hate feeling meaty. My friend back home shoots and butchers her own deer. Local, natural and clean. Not to mention lean! Think ill try that when i get back. She also uses native rituals to cleanse the kill.

Best of luck to everyone! :)
As I continue to stay abstinent, help me be released from the cravings for foods that are not in my best interest.

Help me learn that food is to nourish my body so my spirit can carry out your plans for me.

    Re: Raw foods

I would like to add my experience in this area. earlier in my life, before FAA, I was a vegan for 5 years and also over the years had periods where I tried to eat only raw or only akaline, etc. I did cleansing and other types of fasts. What I found was that ultimately these practices did not cure my eating addiction and they became untenable because I was not able to stick to them.

For myself, I have come to believe that my body is not adapted well to handling only a raw food or vegan diet. My experience with it is that if I do not have a certain balance of high quality protein and carbs in each meal, then I crave food. it is not just the sugar, flour and wheat, but also high fat substances (i.e nuts, olives, avocado), lack of balance and insufficient calories that cause me to go off.

Since starting FAA 11 months ago, I have stuck with the weighed and measured food plan and a variety of vegan, fish , poultry and meat meals. I try to eat at least one meal a day that is non-animal using tofu, beans or tempeh. But I can't imagine doing that 4 meals a day--I believe I would have a hard time sticking to that because 1) boredom and 2) the proteins are still mixed with carb so the balance would shift too much towards carb for my body.

Years ago when I was avidly committed to being vegan, the last thing I wanted to hear about was someone telling me to eat animal products or eat more protein, which at least 2 chinese medical doctors and 2 midwives did. I was told that I did not have a good body type to be vegan, but I ignored that advice, to my detriment. Despite my ideals, I have learned to accept the world as it is for me, which includes the sad reality that animals (including humans) kill for food. Even as a vegan, I was killing plants for food!

That is my experience. Since balancing the food in this way, I have hardly had cravings and have been able to sustain my abstinence. This is an unprecedented length of time in my lifetime for this to have happened.

    Sincerely,

    Tweaks to the program

    Hi Jennifer,

i read your post in response to veganism. What you said really resonated with me. I too have found myself abusing things like nuts and raisins every time i try to go raw or vegan. It's a recipe for disaster for me.

Like you, I am also very active and I'm curious, what tweaks did you make to the program to support your active lifestyle? I am also active, but i fear making adjustments and rationalizations with the plan. I do not yet have a sponsor, but believe that with guidance i can safely modify the plan to support my lifestyle. Any tips you have would be great.

    Best,
    Gina

The raw food diet is one of the healthy crash diets to lose weight fast. In this diet plan, you are expected to eat only raw, fresh uncooked food and avoid all processed ones. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, milk, buttermilk, yogurt, organic foods, beans, etc. are some of the foods that you can include in the raw food diet.
