    Hungry in Austia

    Hi FAA Friends,
I am Jennifer and I live in Austria. I am looking for a sponsor and could really use some help. I have been winging it with the help of the green book and have been abstinent for 3 weeks. I am pretty happy about that too.

    Here's the deal.
I am not overweight and I am a fitness professional. But don't let that fool you, I am a food addict. I manage my weight with excessive exercise and fasting. I do have so say that I am really hungry on this meal plan. I keep hoping it will work itself out, but I am still fighting being so hungry all the time. I teach classes and keep up a pretty rigerous training program for myself.

I can really use some advice and ultmately I need a sponsor. I do attend the phone meetings and I called the world service office to ask for help with sponsorship and they sent me over here.

Any ideas, advice or willing sponsors are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Jennifer in Austria :)

    Welcome to FAA, Jennifer,

I found all of my sponsors on the FAALoop which can be found by Googling it - should take you to the page where you register for this 24/7 Loop meeting of Food Addicts Anonymous. It's on the Yahoo/groups and you can go into Yahoo.com and then find the groups link and put FAALoop into the search box - this should also take you to the page where you register. It's a regular meeting of FAA with new topics each day and a new leader each Sunday. I prayed for guidance in selecting a sponsor and after a few days, I felt that gentle nudge to contact someone who had shared on the Loop meeting. It has worked for 3 sponsors and many temp sponsors who were available to help while my sponsors were away from their computers.

    Hope this helps,
    Jackie

Hi Jennifer, and welcome to FAA!

Since you are a fitness professional, you are no doubt more active than the typical FAA member. The food plan supports no more than 45 minutes of daily exercise. If you are more active than that, it would explain your hunger: you are simply not getting enough food to support your body. Here's what one of the Guidelines for Phone Meetings says:
    ************************************************** ***********************************
    ADDITIONS TO FOOD PLAN

Very active, extremely overweight, petite, vegetarians, or those with specific medical issues may need to make modifications to the food plan with the assistance of a physician or a sponsor. The food plan as it is written is only a suggestion and has helped many, many people.
    ************************************************** *****************************************

It's very important to work with your sponsor and/or doctor when modifying the food plan, as the food addict within is not trustworthy on her own in making decisions like this. But the food plan in general is excellent in its ability to help the food addict's internal organs heal and in restoring most of us to vibrant health.

Another way of finding a sponsor, besides the one mentioned in the previous post, is by attending lots of phone meetings. That's how I found my sponsor. I liked what she shared and how she sounded. During the last five minutes of the phone meetings, telephone numbers are exchanged. You can take down phone numbers of people who say things you can relate to, or whose recovery you admire. I began my search for a sponsor by making lots of Outreach Calls, and these were extremely helpful in providing me support while I was searching. In addition, I was able to have my many questions answered, a huge bonus!

Keep coming, keep sharing, Jennifer. We're very happy to have you here with us in FAA!

Hi Jennifer, welcome. Take it from me as an American, recovering food addicts in Europe are lucky because the produce and dairy is much much better than America's ;) Plus the 5:45am Eastern Standard Time phone is 6 hours later for you ;) zz

I have met many people in recovery who did not come in looking overweight. There is a lot of talk about weight loss in the program but I also was an out of control food addict at a normal weight.

Toby (been abstinent in Austria, Germany, Romania, England, Moldova, Poland, France, Italy, the Netherlands...lol)
