    Hi Carol,
Welcome to the online support section of the Food Addicts Anonymous website. As you familiarize yourself with our fellowship only you will be able to determine if this is the right place for you. There is a lot of information on the website. Our literature helps us to understand the need to abstain from the addictive substances, namely, sugar, flour and wheat. We also learn here about the solution to our addiction. That we have a bio-chemical disease and that by eliminating the s/f/w we no longer will have the cravings for these non-abstinent foods.

I would highly reccomend that you go to lots of meetings. There are several types, face to face, phone, and online. The list is on the home page and there is a drop down area under meetings. the last 5 minutes of the meetings are devoted to questions, and contact information that can be shared. Get phone numbers, and give yours as well. Make that connection with others, If you decide to work this program it will be important to get a sponsor to help answer questions pertaining to the food plan, and other areas of FAA. They will be able to help you as you progress in your journey. You will be able to find a sponsor by making outreach calls to those that you hear on the meetings, where they share their experience, strength, and hope. When you are ready, ask someone to be your sponsor. Sometimes people will help you get started by being a temporary one, or maybe just helping or giving you advice with the food.

Don' be discouraged if the first time you ask someone they turn you down. They might have enough spoonsees already, however don't give up and they might even know someone that is willing to sponsor. The sponsor is very important in helping you to have a better understanding of the disease of food addiction. I hope this little bit of information helps.

    Carol,

I didn't have any doubts that I was in the right place when I first came here to FAA, but when I first saw the food plan - my first thought was that it would neve work for me - too much food, too drastic, and I really had no idea how to cook grains or even what to buy....it just seemed so overwheming....I was very big when I first found FAA, I had that large diabetic belly - looked like I had swallowed a beach ball and my clothes never wanted to fit right and shopping for them was a nightmare of looking in those mirrors. There is open chat tonight (and every Friday night) in the FAA chatroom on this website at 9pm Eastern. Hope you will join us for Fellowship and it's a safe place to ask questions.

    Hi Carol,
    I am in your boat.

I gave up drugs April 2010, no relapse. I quit drinking Jan 22 2011. I know what it feels like to not understand what is happening with your cravings... addictions transfer... I just want to get rid of this one now...Ive had it since I was a child. And it is the one that is the hardest to get out of my life.

I am new here too, and have faith this will work. I absolutely agree that getting into a 12 step program/meetings of some sort are a huge part of the answer... its all mental.

Good luck and best wishes for all of our recovery!

I know exaclty how a lot of you feel also. I was also addicted to drugs, but I have been clean for a little while now. The 12step program worked for me with drugs so I figured I'd try it with food. But this online stuff is waaaay over my head, and I'm usually good with computers. I do think this is a good program, unfortunatley there are no face-to-face meetings near me so I must attend online.

    Hi and welcome to FAA,
I also do not have any face to face meetings near where I live, so the first thing that I did was go to phone meetings. There are quite a few of them with various topics on different times of the day. Plus on special holidays we also have marathons. The next one is Sunday April 24, (Easter Sunday)This means that when they start there will be some type of meeting during every hour till ending at midnight. The meeting where you get to hear experience, strength, and hope from other food addicts, is a great support and help for all of us. The list of possible meetings is on the FAA website under meetings. The phone number for these meetings is 712-451-6000 and the pin is 7393#. There are also online meetings listed. Plus this online support forum on this website and of course, the FAA loop through Yahoo. On the phone meetings you can get contact information from others as well as give yours out. Making a connection with other food addicts, helps enhance our programs. Take care, and be sure to keep the connection with others. Thank you for sharing.
