Important Notice to FAA fellowship

Many of you already know that the artificial sweetener saccharine was removed from the suggested FAA food plan a couple of years ago.  New research has shown that the brain knows and reacts to artificial sweeteners the same way it does to the so-called natural sugars.  This cannot only lead to cravings and blood sugar swings, but there are other issues involved that can be found on the web, which is beyond the scope of FAA.

The FAA literature has been changed as a new printing was needed, and all that needed to be done was remove the artificial sweetener.  And now it is time to change the Green book, page 279, which addresses the question, "Can I use artificial sweeteners on this plan?"   This page needed to be rewritten and therefore needs to have the input of the Fellowship.  This is the proposed rewritten draft of page 279 in the Green:

Can I use artificial sweeteners on the plan?

The answer to this question is "no".  In FAA many years ago, all artificial sweetener packets were removed, but it was thought that tablet saccharin and liquid saccharin were safe and continued to be approved for use in the FAA food plan.  Since that time research has shown that all artificial sweeteners create the same type of craving as sugar.  Research suggests that the body reacts to the artificial sweeteners in the same way it does to large amounts of refined carbohydrates. Not only do they trigger the cravings for food addicts, but also wreak havoc with blood sugar levels.

I realize that this looks very short compared to what has been been used for this page and it was felt that newcomers especially just want an answer.  There is plenty of information on the web for those who want more details.

The literature committee needs your feedback on this rewritten draft for Page 279.  And if you find other versions of Page 279, which I'm sure you will, it's because the literature committee has been working on this for some time and these files got mixed up with the file for the Green book and it was human error.  Some of it happened around the same time that the bar code needed to be fixed on the Green Book and the color of the cover for the Green Book also got changed through human error.  So we are hoping to resolve this page 279 with your feedback.

The Fellowship is working on resolving the issue of the color of the cover of the Green Book.

Please send your comments about this proposed draft of P279 to this email address and if you can give the literature committee permission to use your email address so we can get together a list so we can send out future blind emailing of proposed changes in our literature that will help to ensure that everyone sees these proposed changes to: faaliteraturecommittee@gmail.com
