FAA Suggested Guidelines And Traditions

  1. SMOKING IN MEETINGS
We request that you be substance free at an FAA Meeting, therefore, please refrain from smoking or caffeine drinks during meetings.

  2. SPONSOR IDENTIFICATION
We do not identify sponsors at FAA Meetings. We suggest that each individual sincerely interested in abstinence and recovery take the responsibility of talking to other members of the group to secure a sponsor-someone with whom you can identify and who has attained abstinence and an understanding of the food plan.

  3. ADDITIONS TO FOOD PLAN
Very active, extremely overweight, petite, vegetarians or dairy sensitive individuals may need to make modifications to the food plan with the assistance of a sponsor or physician. The food plan as it is written is only a suggestion and has helped many, many people.

  4. SPEAKER GUIDELINES
We invite everyone to share at FAA Meetings, however we request a "guest speaker" at a meeting be willing to follow the FAA Definition of Abstinence.

  5. PERSONAL DISCUSSION/CONTROVERSY AT MEETINGS
Group discussion at FAA Meetings should be centered on experience, strength and hope relative to food addiction and recovery. We encourage those individuals with personal questions or other considerations to speak with a sponsor or FAA member after the meeting. Please direct your comments to the chair.

  6. LITERATURE
In accordance with Tradition Four we only permit FAA approved literature at our meetings. It is imperative that we use literature that pertains to food addiction only in order to guard against denial in our meetings and maintain unity. A list of FAA approved literature follows:

We do not use any Twelve Step Literature from other programs as a basis for our meetings. We want Food Addicts Anonymous to address the disease of Food Addiction only; lest denial enter our meetings and we all perish. Food Addicts Anonymous must maintain unity so that all feel at home, no matter where they attend an FAA meeting.
